Housing tech businesses and start-ups in the City of London, The Featherstone Building is an industrial-inspired, 126,700 square foot office and retail workspace.
The intelligent net-zero carbon building, which uses smart sensors to reduce or optimise energy usage, has achieved Platinum SmartScore, an EPC ‘A’ Rating, WiredScore Platinum, AirScore Design & Operation Gold and BREEAM Outstanding.
Lighting design specialists Pritchard Thermis asked Whitecroft to develop a fully bespoke lighting system that would enhance the building’s sustainability credentials and complement its unique industrial heritage and architecture.
Whitecroft’s design team worked with Pritchard Themis and M&E contractors Skanska UK to custom design and manufacture 1300 bespoke linear lighting units with 20 variations, including presence detectors and emergency lighting.
This collaboration included several joint reviews of lighting prototypes at Whitecroft’s Ashton-under-Lyne design centre, helping to create a lighting system that met every objective.
The modular, upgradeable lighting enables the facilities team to change individual components as needed, rather than replace entire units, helping to reduce both waste and whole life carbon.
