CASE STUDY

Delivering a low energy, well-lit, productive learning environment

The key project objective of the School of Business and Technology at Oxstalls Campus was to provide a contemporary architectural design with naturally lit spaces.

Whitecroft Lighting provided BIM and Relux designs, technically assessing the offer for both lighting and controls to ensuring the compatibility of a fully integrated solution. Expertly providing comprehensive project support and management throughout the entire process.

Working alongside Arup and TClarke, our expert team selected the best lighting and controls solutions for all areas of the building, including general and specialist teaching spaces, supporting facilities and extensive social learning spaces.

The Solution

With natural daylight being maximised wherever possible, our luminaires provide additional lighting throughout the building. Selene, a surface mounted luminaire featured in social and learning spaces, allowed the retention of the originally specified ceiling, without compromising the aesthetics of the space. Mirage LED downlighter provides the accent lighting in all seating areas, while Avenue and Helm luminaires are used in the atrium adding to the visual cohesion of the project.

To deliver low energy consumption and support the best practice in modern teaching, all luminaires are controlled with a fully addressable and flexible lighting control system. This continuously adapts light levels to the teaching conditions and monitors ambient light levels to maximise daylight.
