In 2019 Wates Construction were employed to modernise Goliath, the largest distribution centre in the UK covering 666,000 sq ft and comprising a 16.2m high bay warehouse and an 8.4 m picking and dispatch area.
A modernised lighting scheme with a focus on compliance, a flexible and adaptable controls system, reduced installation points and a centrally tested emergency lighting system were all required. In order to deliver this, Whitecroft Lighting supplied the Aerial Industry with a tailored lumen output, integral PIR detectors in all luminaires and COMEPS, an automatic central test system for the emergency light fittings.
To deliver the required light levels using fewer luminaires while also providing a compliant scheme, we incorporated the e-Light LED engine, increasing Aerial Industry lumen output by 37.5%, from 24,000 to 33,000 lumens. As a result the required light levels were achieved using fewer luminaires and subsequently fewer installation points.
The Aerial Industry was fitted with an integral PIR detector which works wirelessly and can be instantly commissioned and reconfigured by the contractor using a dongle and an Android device, while the COMEPS emergency system guarantees regular testing and reduced maintenance costs. Consequently, Goliath was transformed into a highly responsive and agile space ensuring the facilities meet business needs of future tenants.
